Escape rooms are a physical adventure game in which players try to solve a series of puzzles using clues, hints & strategies to get out of the room in less than 60 minutes.
C.J. Wells says his escape room is not scary, but it is thought-provoking & exhilarating.
"Escape rooms, they started off online as computer games." C.J. explains. As the computer games became increasingly popular, real-life escape rooms were being built in Asia.
The escape room craze hit America in 2007.
C.J. remembers it well, "The first one that I ever did was in Ft. Collins, Colorado."
That was three years ago and it got C.j. thinking, "It was the most fun I had had in a long time. Just the adrenaline rush you get when you're going in, solving things, figuring it out and working your way toward the end, it was great."
That's why this 2003 Lincoln East High School graduate opened up his escape room next door to the Rococo Theatre on 13th Street a year and a half ago.
C.J. says the response to Smart Rooms has been very positive, "We've gotten great feedback. All of our guests have loved it."
Smart Rooms is open and ready to serve would-be sleuths -- seven days a week.
