LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - The Lincoln Bike Kitchen is working on bikes for the 2nd annual Holiday Giveaway. But they are in need of some more wheels.
The bike recycling nonprofit has been open since 2010 and give bikes to people in need all year round.
They said they are thankful for how many donations they get. But for the holiday season, Bike Kitchen is in need of gently used bikes that they can pass around to groups in the community.
"What we want is people to give us bikes that are going to be quick turn arounds," said Bike Kitchen board member Clayton Streich. "If you look at your bike, if it doesn't have much rust on it and the gears work, you know if it's a good brand of bike, we'd love to have it. And we'll find a home for it quite easily,"
The Bike Kitchen doesn't just give bikes to kids, but also to the elderly or anyone who needs one.
Kids 13 and under can get a free ride, but others have to earn their bike through volunteer hours.
The staff said they need quality bikes and extra volunteers to gear up for the holidays.
