A Lincoln man, convicted of killing his roommate last year, was sentenced Monday.
Trenton Reiner was sentenced to 40 years to life in prison after pleading no contest in the murder of his roommate, Robert Leazer, in May of last year.
During the sentencing Reiner had the chance to say his apology to the family. Reiner said to them, "I'm sorry for their loss, and I hope God will forgive me for my sins."
Court documents show a judge found Trenton Reiner guilty of second degree murder. Charges were dropped from first degree murder in a plea deal. And the family of Leazer said, "we are glad he got at least 20 years."
Leazer's family said today to 10/11 reporter how much their family has grown closer after all this, and how they want Leazer's three daughters to always cherish their memories together.
Reiner does have the possibility of parole after half of his minimum sentence is served.
