Local Herberger's stores stay open, but parent company may declare bankruptcy

HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) The Herberger's and Younkers stories in Central Nebraska will remain open, but the store's parent company may soon declare bankruptcy.

Bon-Ton announced this week that 42 of its stores across the country would close. But none of it's Nebraska stores were on the closing list.

But Bon-Ton may be heading for restructuring under the bankruptcy laws. Bloomberg News, citing unnamed sources, reported Friday that Bon-Ton is planning to file for bankruptcy protection as soon as this weekend. CNBC reported Friday that Bon-Ton had secured a loan that would allow it to file for bankruptcy.
