LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - Lincoln Police told 10/11 a juvenile is being referred to the Lancaster County Attorney's office after he's accused of setting a mattress on fire that spread to a home.
Lincoln Fire and Rescue crews were called to the 3100 block of Potter Street around 3:30 Sunday afternoon.
When crews arrived, there were five people in the home when the fire started. LFR said the after the mattress caught on fire, it then spread to the attic of the home. Firefighters had to cut holes in the roof to put it out.
Fire Inspector Rick Campos said police were questioning kids in the area and the boy admitted to police that he set the mattress on fire.
Campos said the home is not a total loss, but the fire caused at least $35,000 in damage to the house.
As a result the Red Cross was working with the family to find them a place to stay Sunday night.
As for the juvenile, police said the boy was not arrested. Instead he was released to his parents and no charges have been filed as of Sunday night.
