McCook woman competing in Ironman, killed after crash involving car

BOULDER, Colo. (AP) - A 34-year-old McCook, Nebraska woman died Sunday after her bicycle was struck during the Ironman Boulder race.

The Colorado State Patrol says Michelle Walters died at the hospital after being hit by a vehicle on a highway north of Boulder. The driver and details of the accident have not been released. Alcohol and speed are not believed to be factors in the accident.

"We are deeply saddened to confirm the death of one of our athletes at IRONMAN Boulder," organizers said in a statement.

Participants began with a 2.4-mile, one-loop swim in Boulder Reservoir, then continued on a 112-mile, multi-loop bike course followed by a 26.2-mile running course.
