MILLIGAN, Neb.- A restaurant in Milligan that used to be known as "Evening with Friends" is back open as "Charlie's Pub."
We recently traveled to the Fillmore county community of Milligan to find out more about the restaurant. The building itself used to be a brewery at one time. It also served as a car dealership and a hardware store over the years. Then a local man named Charlie Oelrich turned the building into a restaurant in March of 2000. It ran for 18 years as a restaurant, and then closed for a year. "The downtown was just dark on Saturday nights, and it was hurting this small town, so us four couples decided to open it back up and take a crack at it," co-owner Todd Pribyl said. Now, four local families are working together to make sure the restaurant stays open.
If you haven't been to "Charlie's Pub", you'll immediately notice the references to the artist known as Terry Redlin. There are a number of his paintings on the walls, and there is a cabin inside the restaurant based on the Terry Redlin painting called "Evening With Friends".
The restaurant is now open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 5 p.m. to close. "Right now we are starting off with burgers, fries and American food," Pribyl said. "But we are going to step up to steaks, prime rib and possibly seafood on the menu in the very near future." Pribyl said having the restaurant open again will be good for the entire area.
