Miss Nebraska 2017 Allison Tietjen has arrived in Atlantic City to represent Nebraska at the 2018 Miss America Pageant Sunday, September 10.
Tietjen, a 21-year old University of Nebraska-Lincoln student from Chester, Nebraska, was crowned Miss Nebraska 2017 in June. She has helped raise more than $20,000 for Veterans and Gold Star Family Honor Flights, and intends to spend her year of service advocating for American service members.
Tietjen will spend the next two weeks in production and rehearsals for the Miss America Pageant, and will take part in appearances and service opportunities alongside 51 other representatives spanning the United States. She will then compete for the title of Miss America 2018, $50,000 in cash scholarships, and the opportunity to travel the country for the next year as an official ambassador for the organization and Children’s Miracle Network hospitals. Tietjen has already won more than $13,050 in cash scholarships, in addition to thousands of dollars in gifts, services and wardrobe.
“Miss America here I come!!” Tietjen said Tuesday at Eppley Airfield. “I can't believe it is finally here, but so excited for the two weeks ahead!”
“Allison is the epitome of a hard-worker,” said Executive Director Rachel Daly. “She gives 100% to anything she sets her focus on, yet maintains a welcoming and warm demeanor while making strides towards her goals. Her characteristics are what we at the Miss Nebraska Organization look for in a representative. We are excited for her to begin her statewide school visits following the Miss America Competition to really see the positive impact she will have on Nebraska’s youth.”
Preliminary competition will take place starting Wednesday, September 6. The final night of competition will air live on ABC Sunday September 10 beginning at 8:00 CST. Tietjen is eligible for the America’s Choice vote, a nationwide contestant securing a Top 15 spot for the winning titleholder. Voting is free by clicking this link: missamerica.org/vote.
The 2018 Miss Nebraska Pageant takes place June 6-9 in North Platte, Nebraska.
