LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) -- A Nebraska state senator says he will not seek re-election this year.
Sen. John Kuehn of Heartwell said Thursday he does not plan to seek a second term in the Legislature. Kuehn was elected in 2014 to represent Legislative District 38 in south-central Nebraska, and he was eligible to serve a second term.
Kuehn is a veterinarian, rancher and associate biology professor at Hastings College. He serves on the Legislature's budget-writing Appropriations Committee and has introduced various bills over the years to set ethical standards for lawmakers and curb the influence of lobbyists. In 2016, he sponsored "right to farm" legislation.
In a statement, Kuehn says he was honored to serve his constituents but intends to return home to his work and family as the founders intended.
