Producer Shonda Rhimes says goodbye to ABC and Disney after signing a major deal with streaming giant Netflix.
Under an exclusive multi-year deal, the creator of "Grey's Anatomy" and "Scandal" will develop new shows and move her production Shondaland studio to Netflix.
Rhimes will still oversee shows on the air and in development for ABC.
Netflix has faced increasing competition. Just last week, Disney announced that it intends to pull all of its movies from Netflix. Instead of using the streaming service, they plan to launch a branded direct-to-consumer streaming service in 2019.
Amazon just announced a development deal with Robert Kirkman, the creator of "The Walking Dead."
