Sanitation worker killed in fatal crash Thursday morning identified

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - Lincoln Police have identified a sanitation worker killed in an accident involving a garbage truck in southwest Lincoln early Thursday morning.

Police said 47-year-old James W. Baker was the person killed in the crash.

The garbage truck belongs to Von Busch & Sons, Refuse.

Rescue crews were called to the scene at Westland Circle and West Sumner Street, just east of Coddington Park, shortly after 7:00 AM.

According to Lincoln Police, Baker worked on the back of the truck and became pinned between the truck and the tree. Authorities said the truck slid on the ice, causing the accident.

West Sumner Street in the area is blocked off as Lincoln Police investigate.
