LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - Lincoln Fire and Rescue say a home that caught fire early Friday is a total loss.

LFR responded to the house fire around 6 a.m. near s 25th and D Streets.

An elderly woman, who lives in the house, made the call to 911. When crews arrived, she was taken to the hospital with severe burns.

LFR had to cut a hole in the roof to extinguish the fire. They said it took them less than 10 minutes to get it under control and out completely.

"The house fire took longer than expected to put out due to extreme hoarding," said LFR Battalion Chief Leo Benes.

The street will be closed for a couple of hours. Crews will remain on scene to monitor hot spots in the home. They said things inside could easily catch fire. They are watching it closely so it doesn't start back up.
