Our Town Norfolk: Oktoberfest

NORFOLK, Neb. -- It's become an annual September tradition here in Our Town Norfolk. Northeast Nebraska residents celebrate the area's German heritage and the Fall harvest with this two-day family festival.

"This was started seven years ago by our board and chamber team at the time, and I was lucky enough to take over three years ago," said Jared Dahlkoetter.

Dahlkoetter is the events director for the Norfolk Chamber of Commerce.

"A big portion of our population has German heritage, so we were looking for something new to do in the community and they thought why don't we celebrate that," Dahlkoetter said.

Norfolk is looking forward to its seventh Oktoberfest celebration coming up in September.

"It's a time for our community to come together, celebrate our German heritage and have a really good time," Dahlkoetter said.

Dahlkoetter said he and the Oktoberfest committee pride themselves on raising the bar each year.

"We started out with a very small space and we continue to outgrow that each year. And now, we are a huge venue that spans across multiple streets and parking lots," he said. "We have seven live bands. We have an event going on every single hour, on the hour, for two days straight."

"If somebody didn't come, they heard about it, why didn't you go to Oktoberfest, it was fabulous," said Don Wisnieski.

Wisnieski serves as the logistics chairman for Oktoberfest.

"We've got great food, we got great vendors that bring some German related foods all the time," Wisnieski said.

Nearly 90 sponsors are involved with this event, and last year, more than 10,000 people attended the celebration, and Wisnieski invites you to this free admission event as well.

"If you haven't been to Norfolk's Oktoberfest, you need to make the arrangements now to do so, come and have a great time with us and see all the German heritage, come and hear it and taste it and experience a good time here in Norfolk."

Oktoberfest will take place in downtown Norfolk on the river point near the Norfolk Chamber of Commerce on Friday & Saturday, September 21st and 22nd.

A good time is sure to be had by all!
