SHS Drill Team garners more accolades, bid to NDA nationals

LINCOLN, Neb (by Release/KNEP) - It may be summer and school is out on break, but the Scottsbluff High School Drill Team continues to bring home the hardware.

At the recent NDA summer dance camp at Nebraska Wesleyan University, the SHS squad performed their home routine the first evening and receive a superior rating for their high-kick routine. The second evening of the camp, the group received the Leaps and Bounds award, as well as receiving their spirit stick. Overall, the team was rated superior on team performance, winning a Pin It Forward award, and bids to NDA nationals and special events.

Individual members of the team also took home honors in different areas of merit, including technique, showmanship and spirit. Six dancers, seniors Kennedy Kriewald, Brianne Little, and Nikki Lovesee, along with junior members Serena Carabajal, Gianna Ramirez, and sophomore Sydney Hinze. were nominated for the All-American team, with Kriewald picked for the select All-American team along with seniors from other schools. Carabajal was also the overall winner of the Top Gun Kick competition.

Other teams competing at the dance camp were Lincoln Southwest, Lincoln Southeast, Lincoln Northeast, Beatrice, Waverly, Bennington, Fremont, Blue Springs, Missouri, Abraham Lincoln from Sioux City, Iowa, Treynor, Iowa, Newton High School, Kansas, Bellevue East and Kearney Catholic.
