Super Fair reassuring visitors, increases security after recent events

LINCOLN, Neb. -- The Lancaster County Super Fair is about to have a very exciting weekend in its final four days! Attendance through the first four days of the fair is up 11% despite a rainy Saturday causing the Demo Derby to move to Sunday. Fairgoers seem to be enjoying the unseasonably temperate temperatures which are forecasted to last through the fair’s final day on Saturday.

As the fair continues, the Lancaster County Ag Society wants to reassure the community that the safety of fair visitors comes first. Although incidents where the Lincoln Police Department (LPD) were called in to arrest a few individuals who have made bad decisions, we want you to know that our on-site security provided by off-duty officers from Lincoln Police Department and Fry & Frazee Security, as well as Lancaster Event Center & Carnival staff, have immediately handled each situation and no bystanders were in danger.

LPD continues to assure us that these incidents have had nothing inherently to do with the fair. However, in the abundance of caution and to ensure every Lancaster County resident feels safe coming to the Super Fair, the Managing Director of the Lancaster Event Center, Amy Dickerson, today worked with LPD Super Fair detail lead Sgt. Todd Beam, with LPD Chief Jeff Bliemeister’s support, to immediately add to the already significant off-duty officer patrols scheduled on the entire fair grounds Wednesday through Saturday. This is in addition to recently added security cameras and added training for our ample on-site fair staff and volunteers spread throughout the grounds.

All of our community’s access to the annual Super Fair is the core mission of the Lancaster County Ag Society, and we want everyone to feel safe and “youth of all ages” to continue enjoying the fun, affordable activities and events at the Super Fair--as generations have continued to do for 147 years and counting!
