The back to school jitters

LINCOLN, Neb. -- It's hard to believe summer vacation is coming to a close. Classes for Lincoln Public Schools begin Monday.

According to Clifford Rotlied, clinical mental health therapist at the Child Guidance Center in Lincoln, a major issue among students is anxiety.

Rotlied says excitement and sometimes anxiety is normal and helps us through life, but it's when it starts affecting our performance -- especially in school -- where it becomes an issue.

He encourages parents to create open dialogue with their students and ask questions like, "How was your day?"

Highlighting the positives of a student's day is key as well. Communication is crucial in building an environment for excitement and confidence in change -- such as a new school year.

The last day of LPS classes is May 24, 2018.
