Thrift store celebrates 10 years of business and giving back

LINCOLN, Neb. -- The Daisy is run fully by volunteers as part of the Fresh Start shelter for women in Lincoln. Fresh Start is a long term home helping homeless women get their life back on track.

The money raised by The Daisy helps to fund Fresh Start. Women in the program have first pick in all the clothes donated before they go to the shop for sale.

One woman who stayed at Fresh Start two years ago said she's thankful for all the clothes The Daisy provided, and how nice they were.

"It's the quality of clothing. I mean what it would do for me and my self esteem and how I felt as a woman to look nice, you know. To have things I probably would have never been able to afford on the outside," said Lora Curry.

Curry now is working and lives with her children again. Without Fresh Start she said she wouldn't be where she is today.

And Fresh Start wouldn't be able to help women like Curry without the funds from the Daisy.

In the past decade the business has raised nearly $300,000 which is equal to more than 5,000 individual nights for women.

For the entire month of August The daisy will have special sales each weekend to celebrate their 10 years of business.

You can find the thrift store at 6433 Havelock Ave Lincoln, NE 68507.
They're open Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
