James Covey, 46, was sentenced to 20-30 years in prison for felony witness tampering. He was arrested after interfering with a 2016 drug case in Phelps County.

In October Kearney Police attempted to stop a 1999 Chevy pickup for a traffic violation at a Kearney intersection. The vehicle failed to stop and took off and led police on chase through the north end of town. The vehicle eventually stopped when it struck a drainage ditch.
