Uplifting Athletes Road Race kicks off at Memorial Stadium

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - The 2017 Uplifting Athletes Road Race kicked off early Sunday morning outside Memorial Stadium.

More than 600 people participated in the event that goes toward pediatric brain cancer research.

Monica Waggoner has never missed the event.

The Omaha mother is honoring her son's memory, while continuing to fight against the very disease that took his life.

Monica will be hosting the second annual Color Out Cancer 5k Run on August 19 in honor of Nate. The run will take place in Elkhorn at Ta-Ha-Zouka Park. Register

All the proceeds from the event will go to Team Jack to benefit pediatric brain cancer research.

The run will start at 10 a.m. with a meal and yard games to follow.
