Valentino's sold out of $6 pizza deal for 60th anniversary

Valentino's is celebrating its 60th birthday by offering customers jumbo pizzas for just $6 - but if you didn't pre-order, don't expect to get that deal today.

Katie Wilkinson, manager of Valentino's at the 35th and Holdrege location in Lincoln said they were flooded with calls Tuesday once people heard about the deal.

"We'll be making eight larges every five minutes from 11 a.m. - 10 p.m. today," Wilkinson said.

She said you can still dine-in, but large pizzas will be hard to come by due to oven space.

Valentinos advertised you can order up to three hamburger or cheese pizzas to carry out all day on Wednesday, July 19. So naturally, our Facebook fans were upset when they found out Valentino's was all booked up.

Valentino's pizza was first served in July, 1957 at the original location near 35th and Holdrege streets in Lincoln. Val and Zena Weiler started the restaurant at their Campus Fruit Market store near the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's East Campus. Mrs. Weiler relied on traditional family recipes which were passed along to the Messineo and Alesio families when they purchased Valentino's in 1971.

Valentino's president, Tony Messineo, says those family recipes and a commitment to quality led to steady expansion and today there are 37 Valentino's locations. "Our loyal customers have made Valentino's a tradition in Nebraska and beyond over these last 60 years. We're inviting them to celebrate with us on July 19 the best way we know how, with Valentino's pizza."
