BEATRICE, Neb. (AP) -- A female suspect has been arrested on suspicion of arson, in yesterday’s fire at a Beatrice apartment building that sent one man to the hospital.
Local police arrested Alesha Acevedo on suspicion of arson.
Fire units were sent to the three-level brick apartment building at mid-morning, Tuesday.
A fire occurred in a north-side, basement level apartment. The building is located just east of the Gage County Courthouse, next to an employee parking lot. No other occupants of the building were injured in the fire.
Beatrice Fire Captain Craig Fisher says the man injured in the fire was taken to Beatrice Community Hospital, and then taken for further evaluation to St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Lincoln.
The unidentified occupant was being evaluated for heat exposure and smoke inhalation.
Fisher says damage to the apartment building was estimated at $20,000. He says the fire and heat damage was confined mainly to the north-side basement level apartment. There was significant smoke damage to the other basement unit on the south side, and lighter smoke damage throughout the main and upper floor apartments.
The building has six apartments. Red Cross officials were summoned to help those displaced from the units.
