GRAND ISLAND, Neb. -- The Islanders go into 2017 looking to build off a 2016 campaign in which the team went 6-4 with a first round exit in the playoffs.
This year, the Islanders return nine starters, four on offense and five on defense.
"Our strengths will be returning experience in the secondary and linebacking core," said Head Coach Jeff Tomlin, who's entering his 15th season with the team.
Coach Tomlin expects senior TE/DE Laylaway Thoe to play a big role in whatever success the team has this season.
Grand Island will open the season at Kearney on Friday.
