Concordia wins GPAC Tournament Championship on last-second lay-up

SEWARD, Neb. – The second-ranked team in NAIA Division II made it a sweep of the regular season and the post season, winning the 2018 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Women's Postseason Basketball Tournament, presented by Cypress Risk Management, defeating eight-ranked Dakota Wesleyan, 90-88.

It was an instant classic inside the Walz Arena in Seward, as the teams traded leads throughout the contest. The Tigers made the most of their trips to the free throw line, going 27-of-28 on the night and shot 52.9 percent from the field. Concordia forced 20 Tiger turnovers, converting them into 17 points on the night.

Brenleigh Daum led the Bulldogs with 21 points and was one of five Concordia players in double figures (Mary Janovich-12, Quinn Wragge-11, Taylor Cokerill-11, and Colby Duvel-10). Dakota Wesleyan was paced by Rylie Osthus with 20, Makaela Karst with 16, Kynedi Cheeseman with 14, Amber Bray with 13, and Ashley Bray with with 11.

Both teams receive an automatic berth to the NAIA National Basketball Tournament held March 7-13 at the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City, Iowa, since the runner-up gains the berth if the regular season champion (top seed Concordia) won the postseason tournament.
