LINCOLN, Neb. – Former Nebraska football player Zack Darlington announced via Twitter Tuesday he will not be returning to the team, but instead plans to join the United States Military.

In his note, Darlington, who was a back-up wide receiver and holder for the Huskers, said he is trading in his cleats "for a pair of standard issued Army boots.”

Darlington explained he had two dreams in life, playing college football, and serving his country.

“It is only right I chase that with everything in me,” he said in his note.

“So to Coach Pelini, Coach Frost, former coaches, my Teammates and all of Husker Nation, thank you for your guidance and Support…..GO BIG RED!" Darlington concluded.
