KidZone- Kearney Area Children’s Museum has received $20,000 from the Monsanto Fund, a private foundation and the philanthropic arm of Monsanto Company, to help fund a new Agriculture Zone to be located in the new KidZone facility in north Kearney.

The Agriculture Zone, adopted by Kearney’s Rotary on the Bricks, is designed to showcase the agricultural heritage of Central Nebraska as well as engage all children, infants through elementary school age, to interact and learn about Agriculture, according to Monsanto.

“KidZone is pleased to team up with the Monsanto Fund and Kearney's Rotary on the Bricks Club to address the needs of our community,” Julie Bray, Executive Director of KidZone stated. "This grant will help to educate children about agriculture safety while appealing to the fives senses with interactive opportunities.”

The 600 square foot Agriculture Zone will combine existing pieces from the museum with many new items.

The exhibit will have an area to simulate planting and harvesting crops, and an area for children to identify different types of grain seed through touch and sight.

The zone will feature a barn loft with a slide and an area for play-clothes, including various pieces of safety equipment and tools, along with instructions on how to use them safely.

Children also will be encouraged to view rotating videos on farm safety, agriculture history, and farm machinery.

“This grant will provide KidZone with the means to create a fun and interactive educational experience in the areas of agriculture and safety,” Jeff Tremel, Site Manager of Monsanto Kearney. "Monsanto is committed to supporting the quality of life in the communities where we live and work."
