G.I. Public Schools Presenting Leadership Conference for Fifth-Graders

The Grand Island Public Schools is presenting a leadership conference for fifth-grade students on Monday, Nov. 23rd, said Seedling Mile Elementary School Principal Lee Wolfe.

Three to five fifth-grade students from each of the 14 elementary schools in the district will be invited to attend the conference. The event will be from 12:45 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. Nov. 23rd at Westridge Middle School.

This is the first year that the school district has sponsored a leadership conference for fifth-grade students, and district officials plan to make it an annual event.

Dan Woods, administrator for Nebraska Christian Schools in Central City, will be the keynote speaker. Woods will give a presentation about the main characteristics of leadership from 12:45 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Nov. 23rd.

The elementary school students will be placed in small groups for a
break-out session from 1:30 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. Nov. 23rd. High school
students in Youth Leadership Tomorrow will be the facilitators for this
session. Elementary school students will answer questions to identify their leadership strengths and areas in need of improvement.

Woods will meet with students from 2:15 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. Nov. 23rd to share some closing thoughts about leadership.
