News Release from the Grand Island Chamber of Commerce:
The proposed health reform legislation has generated more discussion, concern and dismay by business than any other issue in recent memory.
Add to this the difficulty of keeping pace with the ever changing content and it becomes extremely challenging to understand what is contained in the reform legislation and how the legislation might affect businesses.
Because many of the ideas contained in the current proposed legislation will have a financial impact on businesses (large and small, those who do provide insurance benefits for employees and those who don’t), the Grand Island Area Chamber of Commerce is jointly sponsoring an informational forum on the topic, along with the “Campaign for Responsible Health Reform” sponsored by the US Chamber of Commerce, the Associated Builders and Contractors; Cornhuskers Chapter, Lincoln Chamber of Commerce, Nebraska Association of Health Underwriters, and the Nebraska Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Senator Ben Nelson is a key vote on this legislation and, as a result, the national, state and local Chambers believe it important to ensure our businesses have a clear understanding of the legislation and are aware of the value of sharing their opinions with Senator Nelson and other members of Nebraska’s congressional delegation.
Senator Mike Johanns plans to attend the forum and will speak on this issue.
This presentation is geared toward the business community.
As has been seen since the legislation was introduced, health care/health reform affects people on a personal as well as a philosophical level.
Highly charged, emotional debates make it even more challenging to sort through the nuts and bolts of the financial implications.
The Chamber represents business and as such, the forum is restricted to providing information and insight on the legislation from the business perspective; we will leave other interests to do the same at their forums.
