752 Pounds of Prescription Drugs Collected in Nebraska

More than 750 pounds of prescription medication has been collected from Nebraska medicine cabinets and homes.

State Attorney General Jon Bruning and the Nebraska State Patrol announced on Monday the amount collected as part of a Drug Enforcement Administration program.

Collection sites in Lincoln, Fremont, South Sioux City, Columbus, York, Lexington and Grand Island accepted expired and unwanted prescription drugs on April 30 for the second annual Drug Take-Back Day program.

A 2009 National Survey on Drug Use and Health found that non-medical use of prescription drugs ranked second only to marijuana as the most prevalent category of drug abuse in the U.S.
