Twenty disc golfers bundled up and headed to Lake Hastings on Saturday to participate in the 1st Annual Frozen Lake Ice Bowl Charity Disc Golf Tournament.

Proceeds from the tournament were going to the Crossroads Mission - a homeless shelter in Hastings.

Steve Stump, a Grand Island resident, is the Nebraska Coordinator for the Pro Disc Golf Association. On Saturday he was helping as the Frozen Lake Ice Bowl tournament director.

He said that the snow drifts were making it somewhat difficult to play, but everyone was having a good time. Stump said that even though it was chilly, it was nice to be out of the house.

""Everybody's really happy to get out of the house," Stump said. "[It] kind of alleviates the cabin fever a little bit."

The twenty disc golfers were playing two rounds in groups of four. Stump said that ice bowls have been around for about 25 years, and are played all over the country.

The Crossroads Center provides food, shelter, clothing, and a Four Phase Program to homeless men, women and families.
