The man accused of holding dozens hostage in a Kearney bank last month has waived his right to a preliminary hearing.

Jonathon Buckley appeared in Buffalo County court Tuesday afternoon.

The 22-year-old Minden resident faces five counts of kidnapping, one count of robbery, and one count of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

He is accused of holding about 40 people in the Wells Fargo Bank at 21 West 21st Street with a shotgun and a machete on February 10th.

In court Tuesday, Buffalo County Public Defender Jeff Wirth said his client would waive his right to a preliminary hearing in exchange for copies of evidence gathered by the Buffalo County Attorney.

Buckley had no comment before his court appearance, responding "not right now" with an accent to questions. Buckley normally does not speak with an accent. He whistled while leaving the court room.

Buckley's case will now be transferred to district court where he will enter a plea.

The date of his next appearance has not been set.
