KHS Speech Students Qualify for Nationals, Konz Awarded Coach of the Year‏

Three Kearney High School students have qualified to compete in the National Forensic League Tournament in June. Coach Mary Alice Konz has also been awarded "Coach of the Year" for the Nebraska District of National Forensic League.

Three Kearney High speech team members qualified to compete in the National Forensic League Tournament in Kansas City in June. In order to qualify, competitors must finish first or second in their events.

Keegan Potthoff was humorous interpretation champion; Chris Lyons and Katie Nelson were district runners-up in duo interpretation.

First alternates include Karlee Currin and Potthoff in duo interpretation, Lyons in oratory, and Nelson in dramatic interpretation.

Grace Manley finished seventh in dramatic interpretation, and Sarah Walsh was sixth in oratory.

Semi-finalists included Demares Campos in international extemp, Kelsey Reiman in U.S. extemp, Maggie Konz in oratory, and the duo team of Sullivan Moore and Jessa Newby.

This is the fourth consecutive year the Bearcats have had an entry at N.F.L. Nationals.

At the NFL district qualifying meet Saturday, Mary Alice Konz was awarded "Coach of the Year" for the Nebraska District of National Forensic League.
