Two California women have pleaded guilty to possessing counterfeit traveler's checks.

In federal court last week, 19-year-old Lanesha Paxton, of Stockton, Calif.; and 30-year-old Arena Adanandus, of Richmond, Calif., admitting having 342 bogus traveler's checks on them when they were arrested last August in Hall County. Officials say they and another California woman had passed $1,300 worth of the checks in Kearney.

Paxton and Adanandus are scheduled to be sentenced on May 23. They face up to 10 years in prison.

The Grand Island Independent says the third woman, 30-year-old Khadija Thompson, of Oakland, Calif., is expected to plead guilty Wednesday.

State charges were dropped because of the federal prosecution.
