The Nebraska Cattlemen are floating a plan that would do away with the state's brand-inspection requirement.
The Cattlemen plan to hold a series of informational and
educational meetings across the state before deciding whether to approach a state senator about sponsoring a bill that would eliminate brand inspections.
Melody Benjamin of the Cattlemen's office in Alliance told the
Lincoln Journal Star that the intent is not to stop branding. She
said it's to do away with the requirement of brand inspection and the 75-cent per head fee that's charged for inspection whenever cattle are sold or whenever they cross the north-south inspection line in central Nebraska that divides farming and ranching country.
