Police say an 8-year-old girl and her 6-year-old friend are suspected of damaging two kindergarten classrooms so severely that the district canceled the kindergarten classes for the rest of the school year at Franklin Elementary in Holdrege.
The Kearney Hub is reporting that principal Amber Porter called parents Sunday night, telling them the district didn't have space or supplies to set up new areas for the two classes.
Police aren't sure how the two girls got into the two portable classrooms over the weekend. They poured paint, glitter and sand around the classrooms, wrote on the walls and tore up books and toys. Damage is estimated at $20,000.
The girls are in their parents' custody, and the incident was referred to the Phelps County Attorney's Office.
