National Handgun Championship Contender Returns to GI

"When I go out and shoot a gun, it's just a big release," said Jeremy Millard.

Millard helps to run gun clinics at the Heartland Public Shooting Range. He said bringing new people to the sport is one of the most rewarding parts of his work.

When he is not recruiting new top guns, he is training for National Handgun Championships.

"It doesn't matter how big or tall you are, how fast you are, how strong you are. This sport is the great equalizer," Millard said.

Jeremy just returned from the USPSA National Handgun Championships at the Desert Sportsman's Rifle & Pistol Club in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Millard said he was pleased with his performance but he is going to work to keep improving. He finished 154th at the national competition.

A series of mental mistakes prevented Millard from placing where he wanted. He said he lost around 170 points of a possible 1,700 due to penalties.

Points lost that could have placed him upwards of 60 spots.

"I had a few mental hiccups, a few misses because I felt the rush," Millard said.

Millard wants to become a Grand Master- or a top 5 percent shooter in the sport- and he is more than willing to work for it.

"It's a mental game, it's exciting and there's an adrenaline rush that goes on and I just love it."
