From the Upper Big Blue NRD:
Smith Creek Recreation Area Lake Gets a New Boat Dock

The Upper Big Blue NRD managed Smith Creek Recreation Area Lake now features a brand new 26 foot long, 10 foot wide boat dock.

The floating dock is attached to the shoreline via a concrete header and a 20 foot gangway adjacent to the existing concrete boat ramp. A metal railing has also been installed at the end of the dock for safety.

The new boat dock is a result of District citizens who regularly fish at Smith Creek making a request that the NRD consider such an installation. After the Upper Big Blue NRD looked into the possibility of installing the boat dock, several more lake visitors encouraged the NRD that this would be an added benefit to an already heavily visited recreational area that boasts great fishing and waterfowl hunting.

Several Boy Scout groups also camp overnight at Smith Creek and the newly added boat ramp will allow easier access to the lake for boating and canoeing, as well as directly fishing off of the dock. The Upper Big Blue Natural Resources District appreciates feedback about our recreational areas and it is our intent to upgrade and enhance our facilities when needed.

The Upper Big Blue Natural Resources District (NRD) protects lives, property and the future of this area through a wide-range of stewardship, management and education programs-from flood control to groundwater monitoring, from irrigation management to outdoor recreation and more. Activities and projects of the Upper Big Blue NRD are reviewed and approved by a locally elected board of directors. The Upper Big Blue NRD is one of 23 Natural Resources Districts across the state.
