Strong Winds Flip Railcars, Storage Units and Cuts Power

High winds caused damage in Grand Island and surrounding areas Monday night.

Huge trees were uprooted, blocking streets and damaging cars.

According to Jon Rosenlund, Hall County Emergency Management Director, most of the damage is to trees and power lines.

Rosenlund said a few dozen people are reporting power outages. Crews are working on restoring power in the areas near Webb Road and West 2nd Street and West Highway 30 in Grand Island.

Rosenlund said there are about 60 overturned empty railcars at Cornhusker Ammunition Depot. He said they were stationed there for repair.

He said winds overturned a storage unit on the corner of Old Potash and Old Fair Road in Grand Island.

There was no flooding to report. No damage estimates yet.
