Grand Island residents are excited about this winter's first snow. While many were hoping for a white Christmas, they said a white New Year's is almost just as good.
"Oh I was happy. I wanted a white Christmas, but New Year's is OK," Celia Rivera said.
Neighborhood residents didn't seem to mind the extra plowing and shoveling to clean their driveways Friday morning.
"I was gonna just use my shovel, but I thought, no I got a big five horse snow blower. Why work my shovel," Charles Dixon said.
The first snow just barely made holiday season.
"Everybody was hoping for a white Christmas, but you know, we ain't that far away," Dixon said.
According to the National Weather Service, about three inches of the white powder fell on Grand Island's roads Thursday night. By late Friday morning, the main streets were clear and side streets were being plowed all over the city.
"I think it's great, myself. I've got a granddaughter and grandson that will be mad because they wanted to go to Lincoln. But, I think the roads will be alright," Charles Dixon said.
Rene Morales works hard clearing roads and driveways. In true holiday spirit, his family pitched in, helping shovel snow today.
"They wanna have fun, you know, and they wanna work, so I think it's the best deal," Morales said.
Fun in the snow is worth the extra work.
