It's been wild ride former Husker volleyball player Jordan Larson. "It was kind of a world-wind of events," Larson said during a telephone interview with KOLN-TV Thursday afternoon.
From moving to Puerto Rico to saying "I do" Larson's life has changed over the past six months. The Hooper, Nebraska native is now a professional volleyball player and a wife. This week - she's leading Team USA in the Pan American Cup. "I know we have a very talented team and I expected great things, and we have great expectations for the future," Larson said.
The United States finished pool play a perfect 5-0 and earned a bye to the semifinal round it will face the winner of Brazil and Peru's quarterfinal match. "I think our goal is to win it and we're also trying to get better at skills and learning that it's all about a process," Larson said. "So we're making ourselves better to win a gold medal in the end."
Larson, who ranks fifth of the team in points, is teaming up with fellow former Husker Nancy Metcalf. Despite a near decade age difference, Larson says the two have grown close this week.
"I always heard about (Metcalf) as being a great player," Larson said. "It's kind of cool to have two Nebraskans out there.
"I mean we're actually pepper partners, so we hang out doing that and at practice. We talk a lot outside of practice as well."
Larson says she plans to sign another pro contract at the conclusion of the Pan American Cup.
