The Nebraska football team continued fall practice Friday morning, completing the first of two practices scheduled for the day. The Huskers practiced for two hours in helmets and shoulder pads on the Ed and Joyanne Gass grass practice fields. Head Coach Bo Pelini said he sees the team progressing, but also notes there is always room for improvement.
“We’re progressing,” Pelini said. “Obviously we have a long, long way to go. We’re still at the beginning stages of this process. We are nowhere near where we need to be, we just need to keep working on it.”
Pelini spoke briefly about the talented and young offensive line the Huskers boast this year.
“I think they are all very talented,” Pelini said. “They like to play, they like football and I think it is a very talented group. I think they are a good group of players. Obviously, that is who you try and recruit. I think they’ll be good players in the future.”
Members of the 1962 Nebraska team, Dennis Claridge, Willie Paschall, Dwain Carlson and Lyle Sittler, were in attendance at Friday’s practice to promote the auction of the 1962 throwback uniforms. The Nebraska Cornhuskers will wear the team's first-ever throwback uniforms on Saturday, Sept. 26, to help celebrate the school's ongoing NCAA-record 300th consecutive sellout against Louisiana-Lafayette at Memorial Stadium.
“Obviously, there is a lot of tradition here and they accomplished some great things,” Pelini said. “We’re here to celebrate that. I know we have four members of the team here today and I appreciate them being around and their support. That is part of the deal here; you have to live up to the tradition every day.”
The Huskers return to the practice field this afternoon to complete their first of four two-a-day sessions. The Huskers will continue practice Saturday, before taking Sunday off.
