The “Living Well with Diabetes” information fair will be from 6:30-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 17th, at Saint Francis Medical Center. The public is invited to attend an information fair packed with ideas to help individuals manage their diabetes through the holiday season.
The program is a part of Saint Francis Medical Center’s “Be Well” community education series and was made possible through a generous donation to the Saint Francis Foundation from the estate of Olga Rathman, who witnessed the effects diabetes had on several members of her family before her death last November at the age of 100.
“Olga was very healthy herself, but she had a niece who died from diabetes and there were others in the family who had it, including a couple of her sisters,” said Carole Rathman, who is Olga Rathman’s niece through marriage. “That’s why we thought helping to educate others about diabetes would be a good way for her money to be used.”
The information fair includes:
- Three recipes for the holidays — Teri Sass, RD, and Brooke Smith, RD, Saint Francis Medical Center
- Basic foot exam — Scot Bandel, DPM, Grand Island Foot Clinic
- Oral health screenings — Jessica Rodenbaugh, Grand Island Dental Center
- Eye-care questions and answers — Chad Hudnall, OD, Family Eyecare
- Smoking cessation information — Tim Zeleski, Tobacco Free Hall County
- Diabetes information — Colleen Gnewuch, RN, CDE, and Dee Headley, RN, Saint Francis Medical Center
