Research funding at the University of Nebraska Medical Center grew 15 percent over the past year.

UNMC officials say researchers brought in roughly $115 million in funding from national agencies during the 2009-2010 fiscal year.

Tom Rosenquist, the vice chancellor for research, says the numbers show that UNMC's emphasis on larger projects is paying off.

The average size of UNMC's grants from the National Institutes of Health grew to $428,420 last year from $262,000 in 2000. And UNMC received 11 grants worth more than $1 million each.
