For Union College Freshman, Michael Rohm, a walk around campus is nothing compared to what he went through to get here.
"I just wanted to experience something unique, something I've never really heard of anyone doing," said Michael Rohm.
Rohm walked to Lincoln from Oregon. His 55 day hike took him across 5 states.
Rohm only carried what could fit in his backpack and lived on peanut butter and honey sandwiches.
"It's just a mixture of creativity and desperation," said Rohm.
Rohm hit a big mile marker on the road, his 20th birthday.
"I think I bought myself a pint of strawberries to celebrate and that's about it," he said.
He also met some people who helped him out along the way.
Like the leader of a Utah boyscout troop who invited him to camp with the troop for a night.
"I found a really cool spot to camp and kind of swim around and relax and then he said, well we have tacos tonight. And that's what sold it for me because living off of peanut butter and honey. Food is impossible to resist."
Rohm was also given a bike that he rode from Colorado to Lincoln.
Rohm said 9 months he spent in Africa building churches, schools and an orphanage influenced his trip
"Being overseas in Africa, I developed a stronger sense of adventure as well as a stronger awareness to the needs of people," he said.
As for Rohm's next journey, he's hitting the books to study international rescue and relief.

Scott, Your stylized response causes me to believe you are a pessimist. Perhaps you are wondering, "what is the definition of pessimist?" As defined by Merriam-Webster, a pessimist is one who lives behind walls of solitude; this can be literal or figurative, but let's pretend it's literal, shall we? You hide behind your calico lace and criticize the world around you. Don't you? Or don't you? Mr. Rohm understood the implications of this journey, and the negative message some (you) would construe, but he pursued his vision. Good day sir!
Doug, isn't it possible that maybe Mr. Rohm is some sort of a false prophet? Despite his seemingly heroic actions and nearly flawless figure, I wouldn't put past him, judging by his wandering eyes and chin-beard, to be interrogated by police for looking as if he is planning to break into a parked car.
A welcome addition to our community. Good Luck Mr Rohm
My first entry (and sadly, your first impression of me) was erroneous, a mistake born of confusion. This was my original message: The tale of Michael Rohm is allegorical, a message of hope for the masses. His pilgrimage of the soul dispels the myth that our young adults of the post 9/11 era are wasting their potential in front of a television screen. To The Rohm: When Death approaches at your doorstep, brazenly bold with his impending collection, may you take a blunt object and deftly enforce justice, Walker-style. Vaya con Dios.
I don't wish to submit my email
No, Brian, it's not a question. He WILL be an excellent addition to our community, and we will all be better Christians because of him. I'm already subscribed to his video blog where he shows off his favorite clothing that he buys at second-hand stores. Good day.
Congratulations Michael! Have a great school year! Keep listening to your own drum! Love, Aunt Fran
Last I checked Colorado was on the way to Lincoln from Oregon, not the wrong direction. Good for him, I wish him the best!
Sounds like an interesting young man. He would seem to be an excellent addition to our community. Good Luck young Mr Rohm
If he rode a bike from Colorado to Lincoln, he was going the wrong direction.
