The State Fair guide is packed with so many events and attractions that many people say they have to come back another day to see it all.
Among those attractions are several walking acts that keep fair goers smiling. One performer has a very unique entourage that catches the eye of everyone they pass.
"These are the Dirty Dozen Puddle Jumpers," explains Paul Messerschmidt when onlookers stop him.
Messerschmidt, known as "The Gooseman," gets looks everywhere he goes. That's because everywhere he goes he's followed by a dozen geese.
"They're funny, and they drink pop," said one young fair goer.
Messerschmidt's geese don't just drink soda out of a bottle he offers, they also wear outfits.
"Yesterday we were NASCAR drivers and race car teams, and the day before we were cowgirls and cowboys," said Messerschmidt.
He said they also have evening wear if the occasion arises. On that particular day the geese were dressed up as baseball players.
Most people aren't just amazed by the outfits, but more by the fact that the geese stay so close to Messerschmidt even as they navigate between throngs of people. Messerschmidt said he has a variety of signals and calls that tell his geese where to go.
"When we want them to go left to right it's 'nook now,' and when we want them to go right to left it's 'mook ow,'" he said. "They're imprinted as babies, so there's about 80 hours per week whether you like it or not you still have to spend time with them."
Messerschmidt isn't complaining. He says that spending time with is geese may have saved his life after he fell ill and gained 150 pounds.
"To keep me going and occupied and to get me out of bed every day, the doc wanted me to get a hobby, and I just started walking them to embarrass my children," Messerschmidt said. "I wasn't supposed to survive three times out of the hospital. I suppose I'm supposed to be doing a higher power's work."
Though Messerschmidt says he doesn't know if he believes in all that, he does know that he's making people happy.
"That's what it's about," he said. "You can have the worst day in the world, and you see these guys walking down the street, you will have a smile on your face."
The Nebraska State Fair ends on Monday, but fair goers have a few more chances to see the Puddle Jumpers. They roam the grounds at 1:00 pm and 5:30 pm.

The Gooseman and his "Puddle Jumpers" are certainly a wonderful act. Since they appeared at the State Fair in Lincoln in two of the last three years, I wonder why they did not get any media attention there ?
