Flu shots are already available at Walgreen's and Walmart for the upcoming influenza season. But many are worried that getting a shot too early can leave you vulnerable later on during peak flu season around February.

Dr. Joann Schaefer from the Department of Health and Human Services explained that this is a relatively new myth.

"It has only been recently that we've looked back and said that through studies that actually we have time. We can go ahead and give it early because it does last longer than we think it did."

Dr. Schaefer's information is backed by the Center for Disease Control. They also urge getting vaccinated as soon as possible.

The current flu shot covers multiple strains of the seasonal flu and H1N1 so only one shot is needed.

The shots cost around $30, but many insurance plans cover at least part of it. Check with your place of work as well because they may already cover flu vaccinations.
