Peter Riegert, star of the movie "Animal House has paired up with University of Nebraska English professor, Gerald Shapiro in a new movie.
"I liked his material, so I called him up asked him if he wanted to write a screen play, and long story short, two years later we made the movie," said Riegert.
King of the Corner is based on Shapiro's book Bad Jews and Other Stories. Shapiro, a fiction writer, never dreamed of writing for the movies.
"I'd never actually read a screenplay before I began working on this one. No, it would have been insane to think that this could have worked out. But it did," said Shapiro.
The pair spoke at Lincoln Public School's Arts and Humanities School Friday to students who had seen the movie.
At least one of them was impressed.
"I think the way in which it was shot, very down to earth way, went well with how the story worked," said Brenan McCauley.
Reigert said Lincoln is a great place to premiere the movie.
"Instead of going to New York or L.A. first, which is a little more expensive, we're on a low budget anyway, I wanted to plant my flag right in the middle of the country," said Riegert.
The movie plays Friday and Saturday in the Ross Theatre.
