Authorities say a teen led a Lancaster County sheriff's deputy on a short chase after the deputy attempted to help the driver.

Just after 2:00 a.m. Tuesday, the deputy spotted a car that appeared to be broken down on Hwy. 77 near Old Cheney.

According to Sergeant Scott Gaston, the deputy had asked the driver his name and was going to verify the information when the driver suddenly took off.

Gaston said the chase reached speeds in excess of 60 m.p.h. The driver finally stopped at S. Folsom and West Pioneers Streets, about 2 1/2 miles away from where it started.

Gaston said charges are pending in the case. He says it's unclear why the driver fled.
