A Ravenna police officer has been cleared by a grand jury of wrongdoing in the death of a man who died in a crash while fleeing police.

Authorities say Allan McKeon of Ravenna died at about 11:15 p.m. on Jan. 14 after Officer Dustin Strode attempted to stop him for erratic driving.

The 45-year-old McKeon sped away and soon lost control of his car. The car severed a light pole, smashed through a tree and landed on a parked car. McKeon was pronounced dead at the scene.

Buffalo County Attorney Shawn Eatherton said yesterday that McKeon's blood-alcohol content at the time of the crash was .338 percent. The legal limit to drive is .08 percent.

State law calls for grand jury investigations when someone dies in police custody or while being apprehended.
