Every night in Uganda, thousands of children leave their homes out of fear of abduction and walk miles into town to sleep. Saturday night, tens of thousands of citizens across the world made similar commutes under the stars in order to draw attention to these forgotten children. Two of those events took place right here in Nebraska, in Omaha and Lincoln.
Nearly 1,000 people signed up to attend the Nebraska commutes.
According to the organization's website, by lying down, participants are joining the invisible children in northern Uganda. The group's website also states "[we are]demanding that our government put an end to the longest running war in Africa, and one of the worst crises in the world today. "
