Local tree farmers, volunteers help out in the 2008 Trees for Troops program.

For the third year consecutive year, Christmas tree growers nationwide have donated real Christmas trees for military families.

This year, more than 16,000 trees are expected to be delivered to U.S. military bases, as well as an international shipment to military bases overseas.

Owner of Spilker's Pine Ridge Tree Farm, Don Spilker says this is just a small way for him to show appreciation for the troops.

"We really have to appreciate what some of the families go through to serve our nation to keep us safe. I'm just glad to do what I can. My part in donating trees and that just a small part of it," said Spilker.

Christmas Spirit Foundation and FedEx help organize this program for the troops. Local VFW members also help load the trees.
